The disturbing trends of reduced fitness and increasing obesity amongst adolescents has been brought about through a reduction of physical education and sporting programs in numerous secondary schools and greater time being spent interacting with digital devices during leisure time.
A growing number of secondary schools are working to combat these trend by installing outdoor gyms for use during class breaks as well as to bolster their physical education programs. The new generation of outdoor gyms are innovative, inviting and offer both challenge and healthy competition for students.
A recently installed fitness circuit at Swan Hill College in Victoria has proven to be a hit with students.
The Principal at the College, Pam Austerberry is thrilled with the results commenting, “Year 7 students commenced school for the 2016 year yesterday and were very excited to use the fitness playground. Our PE staff are also very excited to incorporate the equipment into their circuit programs.”
