The City of Joondalup has recently become home to WA’s first, and Australia’s largest, Park Warrior open space obstacle course.
The innovative course, located a stone’s throw from Whitfords Nodes Beach in Joondalup, has been introduced with a focus on getting teens from the local community more active.
The City of Joondalup has a great selection of play spaces catering to kids up to 12, though prior to this new installation those aged 12-18 were left out. Since its opening, the course has been inundated with teenagers and young adults keen to tackle the large variety of obstacles and to compete against their mates to see who can top the leaderboard.
The course offers 16 obstacles many of which are inspired by those seen on the popular Australia Ninja Warrior television series. One of Australia Ninja Warrior champions, Chris White, has already put the Whitfords Node Park Warrior course to the test and commented that “to have a public course where kids can just come down and try it out for free – it’s Awesome! We’ll have so many good ninjas in the future.”
Adding dimension to the course is an App designed to enable users to record and save their times and for Council to run organised events. In preparation for these, Council has constructed a winners podium!
Australian designed, manufactured and installed by a_ space, each Park Warrior obstacle is the result of painstaking research and user testing. The equipment is constructed from high-quality durable materials suitable for coastal environments.
