Eden’s Landing State School wanted to re-establish their upper primary playground so that it was inclusive and engaging for all students. The previous playground was a 21 year old relic that the kids just did not want to play with anymore. So it was important that the new structure was contemporary, physically and mentally challenging and catered to a diverse range of student abilities.
After a series of meetings following the initial design, a_space developed an inclusive play space with a ramp, sensory play panels and challenging climbing nets that would spark adventure and improve social skills among the cohort at Eden’s Landing. The playground also reflected the school’s colours and was contemporary in design.
The staff at Eden’s Landing advised that students were highly engaged with the play space and were constantly challenging themselves. This translated into the classroom where students were more involved and energised in their learning. It was also noted that social skills between peers improved due to the inclusive nature of the play space, as everyone felt like they had a place to learn, grow and have fun.
