Hobsons Bay City Council received multiple requests by the community to install new Outdoor Fitness Equipment. The result is an inclusive space for all, right on the lake with a_space’s innovative equipment.
Fitness equipment with mass appeal
Council heard the cry for outdoor gyms from local residents. a_space were happy to give some guidance on equipment selection, given the varied range of people who visit the park.
a_space met Council representatives on site to discuss how we could install a mix of dynamic and static equipment to suit all ages and abilities. We also went through the benefits of our ranges in the different locations earmarked. Then, when some utilities threatened the project, we helped advise the Council on a position that would suit everyone.
Cherry Lake has been selected as the initial site for the fitness equipment trial. Since there was such a demand for some equipment, Council is eager to hear community feedback about the type of equipment residents use.
A full-body workout
Cherry Lake is a popular place for weekend barbecues and for daily walks around the 3.5-kilometre walking and cycling track. The park also features a children’s playground, picnic area – and now two a_space outdoor gyms!
A lower-impact Fit for Parks focussed gym was installed near the playground to provide an inclusive space for young and old alike.
At the other end, near the car park, public toilets and along a popular pathway, a mix of Fit for Parks and Fitness Extra equipment was installed.
a_space wanted to help Council find the best locations for their innovative outdoor fitness equipment. We visited the site with Council representatives to scout the ideal setting. Community safety, usability and maximum reach and use were front of mind.
Council shared a_space’s values for quality. a_space are proud to offer Australian designed and manufactured equipment. We manufacture everything in Australia so that our customers can count on quality in a public setting.
Community engagement
a_space supported the Council initiative to survey local residents with a ‘Come and Try’ day. We provided an experienced fitness trainer to help demonstrate and to assist users with the equipment.
Council have gone out of their way to survey residents on-site as well as via their website to help decide on future fitness station equipment.
The ‘Come and Try’ day was a fantastic way of engaging with residents about what was important to them.
Some of the feedback from residents was to compliment the wonderful family-friendly atmosphere. Inclusive spaces are important to a_space. In this setting, parents and children can play and exercise together. The beauty of outdoor fitness equipment is the non-threatening environment. Even the most nervous beginner can feel comfortable trying things out.
Every piece of a_space equipment includes helpful signage to guide users, as well as QR Codes. The QR codes link users to specific instructional videos to assist them. Residents can try the equipment safely while knowing what pieces work which body parts to suit individual fitness goals.
